Crop PDF

Trim the margins of PDF pages or keep just one area — draw it on the page or detect the margins automatically. 100% in your browser.

Scanned pages often come with a grey border and the edge of the scanner lid, slides exported to PDF have wide empty margins, and sometimes you only want one table or figure from a page. Crop PDF lets you draw the area to keep on the page itself — or detect the printed area automatically — and applies it to one page or the whole document, without uploading the file.

How to crop pdf

  1. 1. Add your PDF; a preview of the first page appears.
  2. 2. Drag the box over the area to keep and resize it from the corner, or click Detect margins to fit it to the printed content.
  3. 3. Choose whether to apply it to all pages or only the page shown, then click Crop & download.

When to use Crop PDF

Clean up scans

Remove the dark border, the scanner lid and the punch holes around scanned pages so they look like the original paper.

Bigger text on a phone or e-reader

Trimming wide white margins makes the text fill the screen, so a PDF is readable on a phone or Kindle without zooming.

Keep one figure or table

Crop a single page down to the chart or table you need and drop it into a report or a slide.

Cropping hides, it doesn't delete

Like Adobe Acrobat, the tool sets the page's crop box: viewers and printers show only the area you chose, but the content outside it is still in the file. That makes cropping reversible, and it keeps the text sharp and searchable. If you need to remove sensitive content permanently, cropping is not the right tool — the hidden part can be recovered.

Pages of different sizes

The crop is stored as a proportion of the page, so with "Apply to all pages" a page twice as large gets a box twice as large in the same position. Rotated pages (common in scans) are handled as you see them in the preview. For a document with very different pages, crop the page shown, download, and repeat for the others.

Frequently asked questions

How does Detect margins work?

It looks at the page preview for anything that isn't white paper and fits the box around it with a small margin. On scans with a grey background, adjust the box by hand afterwards.

Can I undo a crop later?

Yes, in principle: the content outside the box is still in the file, and editors such as Acrobat can reset the crop box. Keep your original if you might need the full pages again.

Will the text stay selectable?

Yes. Nothing is converted to an image; the page is only framed differently.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Cropping happens in your browser and the file stays on your device.

Your files are processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded — read more on the security page. Looking for more? Browse our full set of PDF tools or read guides on the blog.
