Editing a PDF rarely means rewriting its text — that is what the original document was for. It usually means adding something on top or fixing how the pages sit: numbering a document that was assembled from several sources, stamping DRAFT across a proposal, or straightening pages that scanned sideways. These changes apply to the page as a whole and leave the existing content exactly as it was.

Rotating a page changes how it is displayed, not the content
PDF pages carry a rotation property — 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees — that viewers apply when drawing the page. Rotating sets that property rather than redrawing anything, so it is completely lossless and instantly reversible. It also explains a common confusion: if you rotate a page in some viewers without saving, the file itself is unchanged and the page opens sideways again for the next person. Rotating here writes the property into the file, so it travels with the document.
A watermark is a stamp, not a security feature
Watermarking draws text or a graphic over each page — usually large, angled and semi-transparent. It is very good at communicating status: nobody mistakes a page stamped DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL for a final copy, and a client proof marked with your name is awkward to pass off as unmarked. It is not protection. A watermark is a visible layer in the document and someone determined can remove or crop it. If a document genuinely must not be opened, altered or printed by the wrong person, use password protection instead — or both, since they solve different halves of the problem.
Page numbers travel with the file; viewer page counts do not
Your PDF reader always shows a page count, but that is the viewer counting, not the document telling it anything. The moment a document is printed, split, or merged into a bundle, that count is gone. Written page numbers survive all of it, which is why they matter most for documents that will be printed, signed, filed or referenced by page — contracts, submissions, reports. Add them last, after all the merging and reordering is finished, or the numbers will describe an arrangement that no longer exists.

Can I edit the actual text inside a PDF here?
No. These tools add layers and adjust pages rather than rewriting body text. To change wording, edit the source document and export a new PDF, or convert to Word, edit, and convert back — accepting that layout may shift.
Can I rotate just one page?
Yes. You can rotate individual pages rather than the whole document, which is what you usually want for a scan where only a few pages came in sideways.
Will a watermark cover up my text?
It is drawn semi-transparent so the page stays readable underneath. You can adjust the text, size and opacity, and it is worth checking a dense page before sending.
Can page numbers start from a number other than 1?
Yes — useful when a document is one section of a larger bundle and needs to continue the sequence.
