PNG vs JPG
PNG and JPG are the two most common image formats, but they're built for different jobs. Here's the difference.
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless (no quality loss) | Lossy |
| File size | Larger | Smaller |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Best for | Logos, graphics, screenshots | Photos |
| Compatibility | Everywhere | Everywhere |
Which should you use?
Use PNG for logos, graphics, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background or crisp edges. Use JPG for photographs where a small file matters more than pixel-perfect detail.
